Have you ever used eBay to sell your services/products?
Did you have any success?
Did you find it an affordable sales solution?
Any tips and tricks?
Any horror stories?

Just started selling flyer packages on there, and wondered if anyone else found it any good, thanks!

Re: eBay

I previously had an internet store and sold through Ebay as well. I found Ebay expensive and very anti business sellers. I created my internet store as a direct result of the changes Ebay made to business shops, which effectively put us at the bottom of all listings. I actually had better selling success with Ebid.

I still use Ebay for buying and the odd sale, but nowhere as often as I used to. Whether my issue is as a buyer or seller I always seem to be on the losing side as far as Ebay are concerned so have as little to do with them as possible.

My internet store was self created using ZenCart, and I was often on the first page (top half) of Google for certain craft products without having to pay for paid listings. This meant more sales than I achieved from Ebay, and more profit as I no longer had to account for seller fees.

As a buyer I would probably not go to ebay for the type of product you are selling, I would research it on the net instead and go direct.

Hope this helps.

Just been through it - will let you all know if I get a good response, etc. It really is free (quite rare for Ebay!) as long as you don't tick any of the premium options, etc.

To be honest, if it brings in a couple of small jobs (I posted it up as an advert for our 'minor works' service - website maintenance, etc), I'd definitely think about paying for some of the premium tweaks.

You can't deny that EBay has a big audience, just not convinced (yet) if it's the right audience for this type of ad - for us at least. Suspect it would be brilliant for trades, though!

My wife who is a book keeper tried this for a while (before she got pregnant and went on maternity leave).

The free advert lasts for sixty days I believe, and she did actually get 2 clients from this.

Ok, not massive amounts of money but for a couple of minutes work well worth it.

Mine seems to be 30 days :D

And yep - it's all about ROI. If a free ad which takes 5 mins to set up brings in one smallish job, I'd consider that a good ROI! :)

I've often thought of selling my logo design services on eBay but don't want to associate myself with their 'cheap' brand.

It's also impossible to sell a bespoke service on eBay. :)
