CV's and age!

CV's and age!

Postby SMART-HSS » 24 Feb 2010, 14:42

Spookily I have had two calls today from friends (going for two different positions in two separate orgs) In each case the application material requests a photograph. Now while this is not new it does beg the age old (no pun intended) question does this attempt to circumvent the laws on age.

I still see many application forms asking for the age to be given despite changes to UK law some while ago now. Conversely after my redundancy I did include some action shots of me at work when I produced a CV. I did actually get an interview in each case and asked what separated me from the other applicants. the panel did state they liked the use of pictures.

never got the job but I did manage to get down to the last two from 100 applicants, so was at least chuffed with that.

Interesting- I don't know the legal stance, but having to enclose photos has always put me off applying for jobs in the past - I don't like the idea and I think at the time I thought "What kind of employer bases the decision on a picture?", because thats the impression it gave me.

I actually always volunteered my age on my CV, though. :)
