Kip - Graphic Designer

This is a normal day:

Wake up and reach for blackberry: Now charged on the Wife's side of the bed

Check BB messages and emails:

Kitchen:
• Shout up and see what Kerri wants for breakfast
• Kettle on for strong coffee
• Check email more thoroughly
• Shout the time to the girls, not a fan of being late!

Work:
• Call new inquiries, I believe it is much better than emailing back.
• Jot down new jobs
• Close down open projects (usually stuff for myself done late the night before)
• BB Message the Wife

Posts:
• Quick check of posts on USBF & UKBL
• Thorough check of posts and sign ups on N2 (this is a new one)

Work:
• Make sure all folders ready (clients work goes in dedicated folders)
• Check payments in and out
• Follow up on any mail needing attention
• Remember that I should have eaten 2-3 hours ago

Life:
• Remind myself how luck I am
• Make sure I stay positive and upbeat
• Never watch depressing news
• Try to treat people as I would be treated

There is obviously other things going on all the time, such as actual design work, coding, completing/starting jobs.

But this is pretty much a good description of the thoughts and procedures of my day, except Kerri & I try to lunch together when we have the time to, we meet in town, wander around for 15 minutes, grab 2 sausage rolls and whatever Kerri is having.

I do think that I am very lucky with the life and people I have around me.

I have the latest equipment needed (the new Mac was a birthday present that we can write off to the TaxMan!)
The teen in the house is a great kid with manners and humour, (but bullies me :D ) now also a Mac user and aspires to be a Clothes Designer.
The woman in my life, is small, deadly and nobody looks better when she is smiling or giggling.

I feel like I have just took part in group therapy! :)

Now this is what I miss on some other forums, the human side of it.

A good read & you do indeed sound happy with your lot.

I must admit I am quite transparent and try to wear my heart on my sleeve, not always possible, but if you don't act the way you want other people to, how can you complain about them! :)

Good Job,

I was going to ask "at what point do you squeeze in the design element of your business" but you kind of answered that in the last paragraph or two.

Come on, Kip - spill the beans.

Organized, efficient. pleasant - and with a sense of humour? You're not really a graphics designer. We all know they are long haired, arty types who never meet deadlines and will only be creative when you give them precise detailed instructions. In these cases their creativity is nothing like the brief, of course.

So, do tell us, Kip - what do you really do?

I'm going to keep my head low - just causing waves on a miserable Friday. Good weekend, folks.

Michael,

If I gave the impression of being organised or efficient I apologise

My organised side is usually 3 emails or reminders from Kerri, nothing gets done the first time!

Efficient, well as we run our own company (a couple in fact) effiency went out of the window years ago, now the only deadlines we keep are our own, which in effect means we are more efficient than ever before, as tardiness is something I cannot stand, hate being late, always early, unless its going to bed, so I guess I am efficient afterall!
